There are now some sophisticated apps and services to help you claim compensation when things go wrong.

Is your flight delayed?

Did your bags go missing?

Were you bumped?

Was your flight outright canceled?

A site called AirHelp automates compensation when disruption occurs.

Since 2013, it has helped 1.2 million passengers claim more than $85 million.

For example, say that you’re traveling by train in Europe and the train is delayed.

A site called Misterfox will get you cash back for your inconvenience.

Each of these sites takes a percentage of the money it gets for you—averaging about 30 percent—as compensation.

But more often than not, the energy you put into the claim is worth it.

After all, something is clearly better than nothing.
