Travel Tip: Airport Superhubs That Make Connections Easier

Locations in this article:  Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Amsterdam, Netherlands London, England Paris, France

passportThe key to getting from Point A to Point B, especially when it comes to long haul international flights, is to choose a super hub for your connection.

Many airlines are focusing on that through using major hubs when scheduling their super long flights.

The more traditional connecting points like London and Paris are increasingly bypassed by smart travelers looking for a more streamlined, faster approach to changing planes.

A number of these super hubs are in Gulf countries.

Last year, the number of passengers at Doha’s Hamad International Airport in Qatar rose more than 21 percent.

Abu Dhabi International saw an increase of 18 percent.

These airports, like others in Istanbul, Reykjavik, and Schiphol, allow you to change international flights in as little as 45 minutes.

In Amsterdam, the Dutch hub has a network of 323 direct connections in 99 countries.

But there’s another reason these hubs are so efficient. For example, Schiphol has five runways.

After all, you can’t board your connecting flight unless the inbound plane can land.
