Travel Tip: Would You Book A Trip On Your Smartphone?

airportYou might research travel on various devices, but what device do you prefer to actually book your trip?

Travel providers are now paying attention to “cross-platform” options. People can start their searches on a mobile smartphone or tablet, and pick up where they left off to complete the transaction on a desktop.

Why? Because smartphones are small, and it can feel like an insecure or inconvenient way to enter personal information.

But that’s all changing. A travel study from Google found that Americans are now more willing to book reservations through their mobile devices. About 20 percent of participants would likely book car rentals and 19 percent would book hotels.

The research firm Phocuswright found that bookings on mobile devices will likely surge—from about 5 percent to 18 percent next year.

What’s changing people’s minds?

Brand-specific apps make it easier to complete the transaction than mobile sites, and you’re more likely to use your smartphone when you’re at your destination, which is when last-minute bookings generally take place.
