Travel Tip: Airlines May Refund You if Luggage Delays Exceed 12 Hours

Consider this: an airline charges you to check your luggage, but doesn’t refund that fee when it loses the bag.
You hold a first class ticket, but you’re bumped to coach and the airline refuses to refund the fare difference.
Do you want to bring your small pet on the plane?
That’s $150, even though the animal should qualify as a carry-on.
Would you like to redeem frequent flyer miles within three weeks of departure?
Some airlines even charge a fee for that.
Well, there may be some good news on the horizon.
This year, Congress passed a law requiring the Department of Transportation to write a rule forcing airlines to refund fees if bags are delayed more than 12 hours.
On top of that, Delta just eliminated a $25 fee it was charging if you called the airline and bought your ticket from an agent instead of on the Internet.
