Travel Tip: Why Travelers Need to Remember This Important Safety Rule

An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777 crash-landed in Dubai.

Luckily, no one died.

But the evacuation of the passengers demonstrated an ignorance — or at least a total disregard — of basic common sense.

The evacuation process took much longer than it should have.

Why? Because passengers tried to leave the burning aircraft with their carry-on luggage.

Even worse, other passengers didn’t leave the plane quickly because they stopped to shoot videos on their cell phones of the entire scene.

It also happened with a British Airways fire in Las Vegas in 2015, and in an earlier crash in Toronto.

Here’s one solution: change the on board safety video.

Make it shorter, and then make sure passengers know they must leave the plane quickly and can take nothing with them.

Without that emphasis, the next time there’s a survivable crash, a number of passengers might not be so lucky — and that could include you.
