Healthy food in airports. For years, that was more or less an oxymoron.
Every time I’d go to an airport, I played a game of guessing the age of the mystery hot dog in the greasy rotisserie. Thankfully, times are changing.
More and more airports are getting the message about healthy food options.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine now reports that almost 71 percent of the the restaurants in major U.S. airports offer at least one plant-based meal option.
That’s a 25 percent increase in the number of airport food outlets serving veggies, fruits, and whole grains since 2001.
What’s the number one U.S. airport for healthy food? It’s Los Angeles International Airport, where 44 of 49 restaurants serve healthier meals.
Who’s at the bottom of the list? Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport.
But don’t be fooled by all the greens. If the salad looks healthy, remember to consider the dressing.
It may be loaded with sugar and chemicals you don’t want. Make sure it’s on the side—WAY on the side.
