It’s one thing to eat and shop locally when you’re in a city. These days, even airports are forgoing the Cinnabons in favor of more local options.
In Austin, getting real Texas-smoked barbecue at the Salt Lick is practically a rite of passage. But if you don’t make it, you can still hit the Salt Lick restaurant inside the airport.
Because it’s Austin, the live music capital of the world, they also have bands playing throughout the airport.
Speaking of barbecue, they’ve got the classic North Carolina version inside Charlotte-Douglas airport at Brookwood Farms.
At LAX, you can find Los Angeles institutions like La Brea Bakery, Border Grill, and even a restaurant version of the Kogi BBQ truck.
No big surprise that the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport has a good selection of craft beer. You can also shop for local food and wine at a store called…wait for it…Minnesota!
Then there’s the Denver International Airport, where Colorado-made items are the norm, starting with the Boulder Beer Tap House and ending with shopping at stores like the Colorado Collection and Colorado Crossroads.
