If necessity is the mother of invention, here’s an idea whose time has definitely come.

A number of hotels are finally embracing some common sense when it comes to a huge traveler pet peeve.

They’re introducing a new hotel check out time, which is any time you want.

They are experimenting with a 24-hour stay concept that allows guests to stay for a full day.

If you check in at 3 p.m., you can then check out as late as 3 p.m. the next day.

Some hotels have tried a specially tiered late checkout pricing plan—if you check out at 1 p.m. instead of noon, you pay $20 more, and if you check out at 2 p.m., you pay $35 more.

It stands to reason that not everyone checks in at the same time, so why make everyone check out at the same time?

The plan also helps hotels better allocate their own resources, like scheduling the hotel’s housekeeping staff and room cleaning rotation.

So ask about this the next time you check in, so you know exactly when you need to check out.
