Travel Tip: Cruise Lines That Are Increasing Gratuity Fees

princessJust when you thought additional travel fees couldn’t get any worse, they have. Not up in the air—but out on the ocean.

Starting next year, some cruise lines are bumping certain fees as much as 13 percent.

Effective January 1, Princess Cruises will jump its gratuity charge to $12.95 per day per person. Holland America is also raising its tip fees.

But not every ship hits you with these fees.

A number of cruise lines, such as Azamara Club Cruises and Silversea Cruises, are truly all-inclusive experiences, and don’t allow tipping. Talk about smooth sailing.

So check with your cruise line and find out about its version of ancillary fees—it’s good  information to know before you leave the dock.
