How to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis on Long Flights
We all know that airline seats aren’t getting any larger.
And the space you do have on coach flights continues to narrow.
And on longer flights, when you’re sitting for multiple hours, the concern is growing about Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT, a medical condition where a blood clot can form in the legs and travel up to become a blockage in the lungs.
One common suggestion is to wear graduated compression socks, but there are other ways to prevent or mitigate DVT.
Try booking an aisle seat so you can walk up and down the plane at least twice during your flight, or do in-seat exercises, like rotating your ankles and doing heel raises.
And, of course, always remember to stay hydrated and avoid wearing clothing tight around your waist and legs.
