Danny writes, ” On our recent family vacation in Rome in May 2026,  we’ve come across this fearless seagull on top of the Palatine Hill with the Colosseum, the Arch of Titus and the Roman Forum in the background. Seagulls have become the unofficial feathered rulers of the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. With their booming population, these massive Mediterranean gulls or the “Roman” gull (Larus michahellis, the yellow-legged gull) dominate the ancient ruins, perching on the 4th century pedestals and ledges and acting as modern-day centurions on the lookout for tourist snacks.”
