New European Airline Passenger Rights Include Free Carry-On Bags
While the U.S. still doesn’t have an airline passenger bill of rights, European countries are way ahead when it comes to passenger protections.
It’s called European Community Rule EC 261.
If your flight within or from Europe is delayed or canceled, you’re entitled to immediate compensation, plus hotel accommodations and meals.
And now, starting in 2027, if you’re flying on a budget airline, carriers can no longer charge you for a carry-on bag. You’ll be allowed one carry-on plus a personal item.
Families will also be allowed to sit together without paying any additional fees.
