Peter Greenberg’s Hot Destinations for 2016
Greenland
Iceland was popular last year, and as the earth gets hotter, so does Arctic travel. This year, the hot spot is Greenland. It’s an ideal place to see the midnight sun on the glaciers and icebergs the size of the Empire State Building. Through the month of April, it’s one of the prime spots to see the Aurora Borealis.
Greenland is a great experience, but not one foodies boast about. It has little agriculture, but it more than makes up for the lack of world class cuisine by its adventure opportunities. For example, there’s limited ground transportation—in fact, there are no roads between towns.
That’s what makes Greenland so much fun—you travel by plane, boat, snowmobile, or sled, and then try to adjust to about 20 hours of light each day in the summer.
