Within hours of the demise of Spirit Airlines last May, a battle ensued among a number of airlines to move into Spirit’s territory.

Frontier moved to start or increase service to 18 airports once served by Spirit.

JetBlue added so many flights to Fort Lauderdale that the airline is now using the Florida airport as a major hub.

What does this mean?

In the short term, look to fly to or from Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami — you’ll benefit from relatively lower airfares.
