America is home to some of the most interesting—and idiosyncratic—museums in the world. There are museums dedicated to barbed wire, tow trucks, and even toilet seats.
But some of my favorite museums are dedicated to submarines.
There’s the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum in Honolulu at Pearl Harbor, where you can tour the World War II-era USS Bowfin.
In Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc is home to the USS Cobia.
The St. Marys Submarine Museum in Georgia is the largest standalone submarine museum in the South.
The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago has the only German U-boat on display in the Western Hemisphere. And how did they get that submarine to Chicago? That’s part of its fascinating story.
