The next time you land in a city where you’ve never been before, what’s one of the best sources of local information? It’s the public library, and in many cases, these libraries have become destinations in and of themselves. They offer free Wi-Fi and workspaces too.
In Kansas City, the central library is a restored 1906 bank building with a film theater built into the original vault, thirty-five-ton steel doors and all.
In Salt Lake City, the main library has a rooftop garden overlooking the Wasatch Mountains and a working beehive on the fifth floor.
And in Minneapolis, a six-story glass atrium welcomes one million visitors a year, all free and open to the public, no library card required.
Other great libraries as destination attractions: Cleveland and St. Louis.
