The Essentials
Airplane Water Warnings
You’ve heard me say this before, but it bears repeating. Unless you actually see the flight attendant open a new bottle of water and pour it into your glass, don’t drink the water on planes. On many airlines, the water holding tanks can carry more than 50 strains of bacteria due to infrequent water tank cleaning.
But wait, it could get worse. What about the airplane lavatories? I’m not talking about drinking the water in there. You don’t want to do that ever. I’m talking about just washing your hands in there.
Unless you use extremely hot water, and assuming that’s available, avoid using that water as well.
Can you drink airline coffee? Yes, because the water was boiled.
