The Essentials
Rising Costs Are Changing Travel Plans
How are the conflict in Iran and the overall performance of the U.S. economy affecting travel in America? The latest research provides some clues.
Forty percent of American travelers say gas prices will significantly impact their travel plans during the next six months. In April, that figure was 33 percent. In March, it was just 21 percent.
Among those planning to travel, 36 percent say they will choose destinations closer to home, while 37 percent report they will reduce the number of trips they take.
At the same time, nearly one-third of American travelers say they plan to spend more on travel, creating a challenging combination of higher costs and changing travel behavior.
