More Americans Are Choosing Road Trips This Summer

Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer travel, but this year there’s been a noticeable shift in travel preferences for Americans.

In the last few months, more of us are saying we’re not planning to fly overseas. And a growing number are also saying they’re not planning to fly within the U.S.

According to the most recent survey from Hertz, 64% of American travelers are planning a road trip this summer, in spite of high gas prices.

And over a third of Gen Z travelers say they are using AI to help plan their trips. Boomers? Just 11% are depending on AI.

But AI notwithstanding, the real challenge for summer travel is not just the number of cars on the road or the cost of fuel, but affordable hotel rates.
