The Essentials
Amtrak Upgrades Comfort
When it comes to train travel in America, there’s one given — the tracks are old, and not built for high speed travel. And the train cars themselves are old — in some cases approaching 50 years of service.
But now Amtrak is at least making the ride more comfortable and efficient — although not faster.
They are updating its aging fleet of long distance trains. More than 800 new railcars have been ordered for 14 routes, meaning bigger and better seats, larger bathrooms, and stronger WiFi.
And according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the new cars will be on the tracks in 2027. Again, you won’t be going any faster, but it’s about time you enjoyed the ride.
