The Essentials
Flight Connections: Minimum Time Matters
Are you reserving a flight that has connections and see what appears to be a ridiculous connection time — as little as 33 minutes between flights?
How can that be legal, let alone possible?
The MCT — or Minimum Connection Time — is directly related to the individual airport.
In Finland, the MCT can be as little as 20 minutes.
In Manila, it’s 120 minutes.
It also depends if you’re connecting from a domestic flight to another domestic flight.
That’s the overseas formula.
But in the U.S., you should always avoid any connecting flights with times under 90 minutes.
More often than not, those unrealistic short connect times are helping airlines try to maintain an on-time performance, but don’t mean you’ll make your flight.
