But what if you’re traveling with a family member or significant other

Whoever doesn’t pick the aisle or the window gets stuck in the middle.

Here’s what I do, and it’s quite simple. Flip a coin and the winner gets the window seat.

Then reserve both the window and the aisle seats, leaving the middle seat still available.

If the plane isn’t full, then you get the whole row and more space.

But it the plane is full, you can count on the fact that whoever shows up with a boarding pass for that dreaded middle seat never wanted it, so you offer to sit next to each other so that the passenger will be clearly delighted at their good fortune in getting the aisle.
