Airlines Are Padding Schedules To Save Connections

We all know about late flights or missed connecting flights. But the real culprit isn’t just the initial late flight itself, but scheduling connecting flight times too tight in the first place.

Now, at least one airline is trying to solve that problem by intentionally padding its schedule.

Starting in April, American Airlines is adding extra minutes to the scheduled times of its flights that connect through Dallas, its main hub.

And if the airline determines it can delay a connecting flight without impacting the full schedule, they’ll alert incoming passengers that they can still make that connection.

At United, they’ve been doing this for more than a year, and saving connections for more than 2,000 passengers a day.
