The World’s Most Powerful Passports
The latest findings are in, which country has the most powerful passport? And what defines that? For travelers, the most powerful passport is the one that gets you visa-free entry into the most countries. And the most powerful passports might surprise you.
The U.S. didn’t even make the top ten list. The most powerful passports belong to Singapore, with visa-free access to 193 nations, out of 227 countries and territories, followed by South Korea at 190 and Japan at 189.
And what about the American passport? Back in 2014, we ranked number one as the strongest passport. This year we dropped down to number 12 and that’s below countries like Croatia, Hungary, even Canada.
One reason: Brazil, China, and Vietnam withdrew or reduced visa-free access to Americans, because our State Department was making it more difficult for their citizens to travel to the U.S. And what country has the weakest passport?
No surprise, coming in at a sad 106th place… Afghanistan.
