The TSA PreCheck program, which allows trusted travelers to use a different security line without having to remove jackets, laptops, or other electronic devices, started more than 12 years ago. 

It’s $85 and is valid for five years. 

But you can also get it for free, because there are nearly 50 different credit cards that offer free TSA PreCheck membership as a perk of these cards. 

In some cases, the cards will also cover the annual cost of a membership in CLEAR, the expedited security service, and even your fee to join Global Entry, which expedites processing for returning members to the U.S.
