The Essentials
These U.S. Airports Are Worst for Lost Luggage
The latest research is out on which airport — not airline — has the worst record for lost or mishandled luggage.
And the winner — or more appropriately loser — is Miami, which loses 306 bags for every million flights, and that works out to 5.5 bags per 1,000 passengers. The second worst record belongs to O’Hare in Chicago, followed by Denver and Dallas.
The researchers matched both passenger volume as well as online searches for airport “lost and found” services.
To compound matters, there’s the subject of luggage theft, and not a single airport surveyed employed security officers to match passengers leaving baggage carousels with their luggage receipts.
