Few travelers expect airport food to be reasonable in cost. And until recently, the most expensive airline food was either at Newark Airport in New Jersey or LaGuardia in New York.
But now, the most expensive airport in the world for food is… Istanbul. Imagine $20 beer, and worse, they charge $7 for… a banana.
A three-ounce portion of lasagna? Try $28. And if you just want to grab and go with a little croissant — that will set you back $17.
But here’s the worst part at Istanbul and other airports in Europe: on nonstop flights to the U.S. which include secondary security — don’t buy that diet soda or bottle of water once you’ve cleared security and you’re on the way to the gate.
The retailers won’t tell you, but not only is it expensive, it will be confiscated by security before you board the plane.
