Spots in the US Where You May Not Need a Car

Mackinac Island in Michigan

There are still some great destinations you can visit around the US, where you don’t need a car.

Mackinac Island in Michigan is one of them. You take a ferry, and then once you get there, you can either walk, bike, or go around in a horse-drawn carriage. Cars have been forbidden since 1898.

In New York, the communities of Fire Island are reachable only by ferry boat, and again, no cars once you’re there.

In Winter Park, Colorado, you can get there by train.

As for Red Wing, Minnesota, you arrive by boat on the Mississippi River or by Amtrak.

And my choice for Friday Harbor, Washington is to arrive by seaplane. Once you’re there, you won’t need a car.
