I’ve always said there are two kinds of airline bags — carry-on and lost.
But if you do have to check your bags, at least two airlines are offering a guarantee.
Way back in 2009, Alaska Airlines claimed that once you landed, it would deliver your bags within 20 minutes or it would give you a bonus, either in cash or mileage.
Then, Delta copied the Alaska guarantee. Those guarantees are still in place. So if you’re traveling with Alaska or Delta, and short of traveling with a stopwatch, you still might want to pay attention to the time, from the moment you land until your baggage arrives on the belt.
Don’t expect the airlines to volunteer your bonus. In many cases, you’ll need to remind them.
But just know that it’s still in effect.
