What Trip Stacking Means

For lack of a better term, many folks are now playing a game of travel roulette by booking more than one flight to more than one destination — hedging their bets against at least one of their flights canceling.

So what are they doing? It’s called trip stacking — making and paying for two or more trips at the same time.

Travelers can do this now — if they have the funds — because they know the airlines no longer charge ticket change fees.

If one trip confirms, they cancel the other two. Or if two cancel, they take the third.

It requires a higher initial investment in travel, but no one is losing any money.

But while this works on airline tickets, it doesn’t necessarily work with tour operators or hotels. Proceed cautiously.
