The Essentials

All About Coach Seat Pitch and Width

Yes, size still does matter, at least when it comes to coach airline seats.

And while some airlines are blocking the middle seat during the COVID-19 pandemic, it doesn’t mean that the other coach seats suddenly got bigger.

Many coach seats are on average 31 inches in pitch (the distance between you and the passenger in front of you) and 17 inches in width.

Since every inch counts, there are some pleasant exceptions.

JetBlue has some of the widest seats that measure around 18 inches wide with 32 or 33 inches of pitch.

But then there are the airlines with tighter fits.

The pitch on Spirit Airlines seats is just 28 inches, and the seats don’t recline.

And new generation Boeing 737 seats can have some of the tightest squeezes in the air. Some are only 15.9 inches wide.
