There are hotels and there are great railroad hotels that are located either at or near current operating or historic restored railroad stations.

Overseas, there’s the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London. Or in Canada, the old Canadian Pacific Hotels once linked with the railroad and are now operated by Fairmont.

And in the U.S, try the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, now run by Hilton, which actually dates back to 1894.

In Nashville, the Union Station Hotel is now a Marriott. And the hotel in Denver’s Union Station is also worth a visit. Then, there’s a highlight — once a day — the California Zephyr still stops on its way west across the Rockies.

These hotels — all restored — are great historic tributes to the golden age of rail.
