Travel Tip: Low-Cost, Long-Haul Flight Airports

Looking for a cheap flight? Why not look for the airports that offer the lowest cost long-haul flights first?

The International Air Transport Association analyzed the schedules for the peak travel season of airlines—March through October—and the airports from which the airlines fly—to determine the true low-cost airline airports.

Leading the list is London’s Gatwick Airport with 85 low-cost, long-haul departures each week.

Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia came in a close second with 80 flights.

But here’s a surprise. Los Angeles (LAX) has 47 low-cost long-haul departures a week, and JFK is right behind LAX with 46 weekly low-cost long-haul flights. Driving all of this are airlines like Air Asia and Norwegian Air Shuttle. In Europe, its being driven by some airlines you’ve probably never heard of like Latvia-based Primera Air.
