Don’t Go There: The World’s Dirtiest Roads

Locations in this article:  London, England

Now there’s trash along the highway. You see that all the time. And then, there are highways that are simply trashed.

Where are the dirtiest roads in the world? The sad reality is that, when it comes to the environment, poverty and pollution go hand-in-hand.

You can see it along the roads of some of the world’s most beautiful place like stretches of highway in Panama.  It’s also evident in large developing countries like India, where millions of people live in poverty and roads sometimes run right alongside open sewage drains.

Of course, pollution is in the air, too. A recent boom in car sales made the dirtiest skies in the world in Delhi, India.

But when it comes to air quality, the dirtiest road in the world might surprise you. It’s not in India or China.

It’s the bustling thoroughfare in London known as Oxford Street, which is also the busiest shopping street in Europe.

If you make the trip, you might want to buy a face mask.
