Travel Tip: Some Caribbean Islands are Now Open to Visitors

The 2017 hurricane season was devastating in the Caribbean, but not all islands were touched.

The storms had little or no effect on Barbados, Jamaica, St. Lucia.

The Florida Keys are now up and running.

So are Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

Most cruise line itineraries in the region have returned, but be sure to check the ports they’re visiting to make sure the infrastructure there is back to normal.

In the British Virgin Islands the damage was severe, but there’s an alternate.

You can still vacation there and see the islands from perhaps a better vantage point—on board a charter sailboat.

As for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, that’s a different story, but some hotels are starting to reopen and are anxious to welcome guests.

So check—on a case-by-case basis.
