Travel Tip: Why You Should Take Unexpected Tours When You Travel

Too many of us take too much for granted when we travel.

We don’t pay attention to the geography around us—or to the goods and services we consume and experience.

Consider this: in a recent survey, seven percent of American adults think that chocolate milk comes from chocolate cows.

That’s more than 16 million people.

One in every five don’t even know that hamburgers are made of beef.

Here’s a thought: the next time you travel, ask your hotel or resort to take you and your kids to the farm where they source their food.

Share that experience with your friends—and of course, your children.

If there’s a nearby factory tour offered, take it.

Do you know how ice cream is made? Or how a motorcycle is built? What about that comfortable hotel bed you’re sleeping in?

It’s time to provide much-needed context to the travel experience.

Once you can understand the process, you will value and appreciate both the product and the experience.

But if you run into any chocolate cows, be sure to let me know.
