By most calculations, this should be a great and less expensive summer to travel.
The U.S. dollar is strong, foreign currencies are weaker, and fewer people are traveling.
So where are the real travel deals?
Airfares to Europe are down about 15 percent compared to last year.
In many cases, hotels are down as well.
In Europe my first choice is Portugal, where a strong dollar means that a cab ride to the airport is about $10.
A dinner for two with wine can average $40. And hotel rates are reasonable as well.
But where can you find the biggest bargains?
Airfares within Europe are rock bottom. Even European trains are beginning to offer discounts.
Normally you won’t find these types of deals until fall. Not this year.
A huge drop in the number of foreigners visiting the U.S. has a created a lot of empty seats across the Atlantic.
But don’t delay buying those tickets.
The number of tickets bought in the U.S. for Europe this year is already up 26 percent. So act quickly.
