Dessert may be an indulgence, but what if it sets you back a thousand dollars—or more?

At Serendipity 3 in New York, you have to order the Golden Opulence Sundae at least 48 hours in advance. It’s made with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream and is covered in 23-karat gold leaf with some of the world’s most expensive chocolates. In 2007, it was named the most expensive ice cream sundae in the world by the Guinness World Records.

Now, others are raising the stakes—along with the price.

The Langham Hotel in Chicago has another $1,000 sundae called The Victoria. It includes chocolate ice cream sourced from nine cacao beans around the world, gold leaf and dust, and some Hennessy to top it off. The sundae comes in a Wedgewood crystal bowl you can keep—along with a 2003 bottle of Dom Perignon. If that’s a little out of your budget, there are 12 other sundaes you can choose from, and they range from $16 to $32.

But probably nothing compares to ice cream that costs $60,000. No, that is not a typo.

Three Twins Ice Cream is offering more than just a sundae—the organization’s founder will hand-churn ice cream on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, using ice from the glaciers on the mountain itself. But wait….there’s more. The price actually includes first class airfare to Tanzania, a stay in a five-star hotel, and a guided climb up Kilimanjaro, among other things.

The organization claims it’s doing this to shed light on how climate change is affecting Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s predicted that glaciers on the mountain will only last another 10 to 15 years, and that the $60,000 ice cream money will actually go to an environmental non-profit organization in Africa—the specific non-profit will be determined once the sundae is purchased.
