Travel Tip: New Family-Friendly River Cruises Around the World

River cruising is one of the fastest-growing segments of the travel industry, and now families are getting on board.
Traditionally, river cruising has attracted an older crowd—usually couples and retirees—and they didn’t offer a lot of kid-oriented activities…until now.
Adventures by Disney recently announced that it’s partnering with AmaWaterways, with a cruise on the Danube starting in 2016. It’s building a new ship with cabins that can hold up to five people, and offers shore excursions like family bike rides along the river.
Just be sure to pay attention to the fine print. Children ages four and older are allowed, but the experience isn’t recommended for kids under eight.
Uniworld has also developed a line of river cruises for multi-generational travelers. They’re scheduled during winter and summer vacation periods, have menus designed with kids in mind, and include family-friendly activities and shore excursions.

American Cruise Lines launched its newest paddle wheeler on the Mississippi River. It’s not specifically geared toward families, but it’s an easy trip straight out of New Orleans.
