Travel Tip: What The TSA Actually Finds In Your Luggage

Transportation Security Administration LogoWhen the TSA searches your luggage at the airport, it has the right to confiscate items. As it turns out, some of the stuff found is pretty wild.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that the TSA seized a record number of firearms from carry-on bags last year.

That number was more than 2,200, to be exact, which is up 22 percent from last year.

Oh…and guess what? More than 80 percent of those guns were loaded.

Come on guys, really?

There were some other crazy items pulled out of luggage last year. For example, there was an alarm clock that looked like an explosive device.

There was also a traveler at SFO who thought it was a good idea to pack a replica of a land mine.

One checked bag in Hawaii was found with the barrel of a cannon! Hey, at least it wasn’t loaded.

Bottom line: I don’t always agree with the TSA or its methods, but in these situations…they’re on the right track. Lesson learned. Next time, leave the cannon at home.
