Travel Tip: Planning Your Trip for Thanksgiving 2014

planeIs it really time to start thinking about Thanksgiving travel? You’d better believe it is. Here’s what you need to know.

Thanksgiving is the busiest travel period of the year. That means there’s no incentive for the airlines to offer any kind of deal.

Translation? There’s no point in waiting to buy tickets because prices generally won’t go down.

In fact, some data has shown that the best airline deals already passed around Labor Day. The good news is you can usually find hotel deals up until the last minute.

Since Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday, you can count on Wednesday and Sunday to be the busiest travel days. Look for deals by flying on Monday or Tuesday…or even better, on Thanksgiving Day itself.

Or, do it my way and be a total contrarian.

The first couple of weeks in November and December are slow periods in the industry. That means lower prices and no crowds. So, if you’re going to get the best experience, those are the times to travel.
