4. To Benadryl or Not to Benadryl?

A dose of medicine isn’t necessarily dangerous to your little one, but the real concern is that so-called drowsy medication can have the opposite reaction you hoped for. And what can be dangerous is a hyperactive kid who is squirming, wriggling, bouncing, or running around the aircraft.

My child rarely sleeps on planes and we started flying when he was 4 months old. Only once did I try the Benadryl solution and it didn’t work. At all.

Otherwise, I kept my sanity with lots of walking around and hanging out with flight attendants, letting him crawl on the dirty floor, endless snacks and, yes, unlimited iPad time. I’m not necessarily proud of all those choices but they’ve gotten us through some extremely long flights.
