Hidden Gems

Street Food Surprises in the State of Mexico

Locations in this article:  Mexico City, Mexico

Mexican Street FoodWe discovered one of the most surprising (and delicious) Hidden Gems from the State of Mexico when we were driving through La Marquesa and got hungry.  La Marquesa is the nickname of the Parque Nacional Insurgente Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. It’s a combination of wildlife park and foodie road stop right between Mexico City and Toluca.

Not only will you find hiking, biking and all the typical park activities, you’ll also get to taste some of the most authentic Mexican street food. The park is loaded with food stalls, serving regional and sometimes exotic dishes from around the state. It’s tacos, piña colada and, get this, quesadillas made with corn fungus. Yes, corn fungus.
