What do a drag queen named Sushi and a marshmallow Peep have in common? They’re the stars of New Year’s festivities this year. Forget about navigating the crowds of Times Square–there are wild and wacky New Year’s celebrations all across the country. Find out more in the slideshow below.

We all know of Bethlehem in terms of Christmas, but it’s also home the famous Peeps—you know, those cute little marshmallow chickens! Just Born Inc. of Bethlehem manufactures the marshmallow treats that inspired the event, and every year they host a hilarious Peep Drop. It’s a 85-pound, yellow, lighted fiberglass Peep dropped from a crane. The replica is 4.5 feet tall, 5 feet wide and 6 feet long at its longest point. At 5:45 pm and at midnight, gather below shouting “Drop that Peep” while a real-life mascot entertains the crowd, followed by a fireworks show after both drops.
