Spring is Blooming in the Netherlands: Keukenhof & Floriade

Locations in this article:  Amsterdam, Netherlands

Keukenhof may have competition this year for being the top Dutch flower event to visit but Keukenhof deserves its credit as the most photographed place in the world.

“2,500 trees in 87 varieties,” “4.5 million tulips in 100 varieties,” “7 million flower bulbs planted by hand” – Keukenhof’s facts and figures list oozes impressiveness and that’s before you have even stepped foot into the “largest bulb flower park in the world.”

Meandering paths guide visitors through 32-hectares of dazzling planted flower arrangements that stretch further than the eye can see, past unique and creative sculpture gardens and onto sweeping vistas across rainbow colored bulb fields.

Whether you want to stand at the top of a rotating windmill, sail through the flower fields in an old fashioned “whisper boat” or indulge in a freshly baked waffle topped with a tower of whipped cream, Keukenhof can help you achieve those ambitions. And if that wasn’t enough, there are also indoor flower shows, photography workshops and bicycles available for rent.

Keukenhof is situated in the bulb region between Amsterdam and The Hague. Traveling there via car is possible and on-sight parking is available for €6. From the 22nd of March, a direct bus runs to Keukenhof from Schiphol Airport, The Hague and Leiden, for an all-in (bus and Keukenhof entrance) ticket price of €21 (€18 for 65+, €11 children aged 4-11 years).

If you do decide to pay Keukenhof a visit, be warned that you won’t be the only one. Arriving when the park opens rewards visitors with some beautiful morning light falling on the flowers and it helps to ensure that you get the opportunity to photograph more than just tourists.

The park is open from through May 20, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Spring is in bloom. Where are you going to see the new flowers and foliage?
