Jerusalem Now: Look Beyond the Old City for Secular Treasures

Locations in this article:  Berlin, Germany Hong Kong

Night Lights

As you make your way back to the city, the sun will be setting and the streets bustling again―Sunday is a workday in Israel, but that doesn’t keep young partiers from spending Saturday nights at the many bars and clubs that have cropped up in Jerusalem in recent years. HaKatze, which opened in 2011, is a hot spot for live music and alternative cultural events, including a drag comedy night on Mondays. Young Israelis and tourists also pack the lively pubs along Yosef Rivlin Street. But you’ll find a more authentic local scene at Slow Moshe (6 Nisim Bachar), a landmark with a leisurely proprietor and a 4 a.m. last call. When you’re ready for a wee-hours nosh, head to Zuni,15 Yoel Moshe Solomon―a spacious bistro with an eclectic menu that’s open 24/7.
