Hotel Monaco Alexandria, a Kimpton hotel, is located on the site where the first Union soldier and friend of President Lincoln, Colonel Elmer Ellsworth was killed on May 24, 1861 after a fight with the secessionist innkeeper.

The Civil War Bike Tour package starts at the rate of $160. This deal offers guests the use of the hotel’s complimentary bikes to explore the historic city. The rate includes deluxe accommodations, as well as a printed map of the Civil War Defenses of Washington Bike Trail. The bike trail includes stops at Fort Ward, Fort Worth, Fort Ellsworth, and Alexandria National Cemetery.

2. Leave the car in the driveway! Hertz is offering customers a series of deals to take advantage of this summer.
The Hertz car-rental deals include:
Get $35 off the Green Traveler Collection weekly rentals. This collection is the company’s line of eco-friendly hybrid and electric vehicle cars. The deal is effective May 1 through June 15, 2011. To receive the deal, customers must mention promotion code #156741 at time of reservation.
Travelers can also save $10 a day, up to $30, on a weekend rental when picking up at the airport. This deal is available through June 30, 2011, at participating Hertz airport locations. Customers must mention promotion code #144340 at the time of reservation.

3. Spend your summer in St. Croix with the island-wide Fantastic Flight promotion, with savings up to $700.
Travelers who book the Fantastic Flight promotion will receive a $500 instant rebate on bookings of six nights or more, including first night free at participating hotels. This offer is available until May 12, 2011 for travel to St. Croix between June 10, 2011 and August 31, 2011.
