Finding Local Food Trucks

Have you heard of the food truck revolution? In cities around the country, vendors on wheels are popping up to provide quick, affordable, and often unusual food. But do you know where to find them?

There are two schools of mobile vendors.

Where I grew up in New York, you could always depend on seeing the same Indian food truck or hot dog stand at the corner, no matter what time of day.

But the new school of quirky cuisine, like Korean barbecue and cupcake trucks, depends on moving around different neighborhoods.

The good news is many of these trucks have Twitter and Facebook accounts that update hungry patrons in real time.

So if you’re visiting a new city, you’ll know where to find them.

There’s even a network of Web sites that tracks carts in several cities around the country—including FindPortlandFoodTrucks.com and FindLAFoodTrucks.com.

And if you’re just plain hungry, remember that food truck behavior is somewhat predictable.

They tend to congregate around business parks and college campuses around mealtime, and near bars and clubs afterhours.

But the best thing about food trucks is that you never know where you’ll run into them.

Look for the ones with crowds (always a good sign), and you may be part of the latest local food trend.
