Borrowing Pets on the Road

Attention dog lovers. Even you have to leave Fido home on your next trip, you can still find animal companionship on the road.

In Hawaii, stop by the Maui Grown Market on the way to Hana.

For years, the owner has loaned out shelter dogs for the day while you hike the famous site. She’ll even provide you a dog lunch, a doggie bag and water.

At Fairmont Hotels, you’ll get a chance to spend time with a Canine Ambassador. Not only with these former guide dogs be your official greeter, you can take one out for a walk and explore the city together.

In Aspen, Colorado, one of my favorite programs is run by a local shelter.

It’s a no-kill shelter that will actually let you borrow a dog to go hiking during your stay.

Local hotels like the St. Regis, the Limelight Lodge and the Sky Hotel allow you to keep the dog overnight.

But I have to tell you there’s a little conspiracy behind this: you’re going to fall inn love with the dog, and you’re going to take him home!
