Jaunted took note of an interview Peter did with Cleveland WJW’s Stefani Schaefer. Let’s just say the segment probably didn’t go the way Stefani planned.

Elsewhere, the Anchorage Daily News’ “Alaska Ear” column noted the arrival of Peter’s new book and seemed resigned to making lists for “depressed and depressing” as well as “dangerously drunk.”

In Denver, the Rocky Mountain News talked to Peter as he made a stop on his book tour. The tour continues: get information about his next stops here. As Peter told the Rocky Mountain News:

“Most travel writing is such boosterism,” Greenberg said. “In these hard economic times I wanted to do a book that gives people criteria to decide whether they should go there.”

Another city included in Don’t Go There is North Charleston, South Carolina, which was included for its high crime rates.

After calling for a boycott of NBC, North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey took to the pages of the Charleston Post and Courier to say:

Recently, Peter Greenberg, travel editor for NBC’s Today show, released his new book called Don’t Go There, in which North Charleston is mentioned. He tells readers to stay away from North Charleston, and that is exactly where we would like Mr. Greenberg to be.

And then there’s Fountain, Minnesota, which Peter took to task over its brochure on the Today show. Of course, as a Rochester (MN) Post-Bulletin columnist asserted, the worst publicity is no publicity.

As for that song we promised before the jump?

Remember how the folks in Ashland, Virginia weren’t so pleased about being included when Peter talked about the book on the Today show?

One local man was apparently annoyed enough to pen a song (below):

And if you think the good people of Ashland, VA are mad, then you’d probably call the folks from Cedar Rapids furious. Find out what they had to say about being one of Don’t Go There‘s Five Stinky Places. Oh, and the Cedar Rapids Convention and Visitors Bureau wasn’t particularly happy, either.

So what do you think of Don’t Go There? Does Peter deserve the flack he’s been getting?
